Another John Hughes Movie Montage (Can You Ever Get Enough?)

Here's a montage of images from many of Mr. Hughes best-known films, set to "Teenage Wasteland" by The Who.  We feel that the Planes Trains and Automobiles stuff is kind of beside the point. But anyhow, we're sure you'll probably enjoy it anyway.

[Ed. Note: Apologies for the big gap in posts. November is the cruellest month. We have much more to say about Gen X, etc... Just you wait.]

Behind the Scenes: 'The Breakfast Club'

Apologies in advance about the sound on this clip -- you may need headphones.  But somebody recorded this DVD extra onto YouTube, seemingly off their television, and in it cast members Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall talk about John Hughes' directorial process and about how much rehearsal they all got to get into their roles before shooting began.

Kids These Days Apparently Doing Fewer Drugs

A study of high school students that spanned 12 years (1997-2009) shows a significant drop in marijuana use over the past decade. Among current students, a mere 38% have tried the drug, compared with 47% twelve years ago, and a paltry 20% smoke pot habitually, down from 26% in '97--the figure was also about 26% in 1985 according to this factsheet. In libertine San Francisco, where John Hughes is Dead is headquartered and where pot smoke can be smelled on virtually any street corner, these figures are even more appalling, with only 23% of kids reporting having tried the Mary Jane, and 11% toking on the regular (down from 17%).

Thankfully, 45% of Millennial teens are still getting drunk whenever possible.

Anyway, for obvious reasons, we give you the pot smoking scene from The Breakfast Club. Cheers.

'The Breakfast Club' Trailer

Sorry, this was a no-brainer. Also, R.I.P. Paul Gleason, who played Principal Richard Vernon. He died in '06 of mesothelioma.
